 It was located on the left side of Highway 53 just west of Jasper, GA heading towards Fairmount a few miles from Highway 515. There is a BP next to it.

I have only been on Friday nights. Both times it was crowded. Friday nights at Hill City Auction are Round Robins with multiple sellers. The first spot is given 45 minutes. After that each seller is allowed eight items then another seller takes the floor. Items vary through the night. One seller may have home decor the next may have tools or outdoor stuff. Occasionally an antique may wonder across the table.

There is a decent concession stand with snacks and hot food. Usually homemade desserts also.

Negatives are the parking and a ten percent buyer's premium. Though any auction that doesn't have a parking problem is probably not worth going to.

The Friday night Hill City Auction is a great source for flea market and yardsale items. There were also lots of cleaning supplies and snacks on the nights I attended.

I visit the Jasper Flea Market in Pickens County every now and again. What I wrote a couple of years ago is still true. "It was a pleasant surprise.  This small market has cleaned itself up. I found antique tools, glass and ceramics along with the usual flea market thrift store items. One shop had an amazing collection of cookie jars and I spent way too much time in another  shop with antique radios, tools and other stuff from yesteryear. Prices varied but for the most part were less than the larger markets."

Once upon a time this small market had thrived but over the last decade came on hard times. Well before the recession hit the place began to take on a junkyard feel with piles of broken and useless articles cluttering the edges of road that loops through. That's all gone.

Though not a large market this place is worth the stop if you are on Hwy 515 passing through Jasper. Located just off Hwy 515 at Allred Mill Rd. and Flea Market Rd, Jasper, Ga. it is easy to find. Traveling north from Marietta, after you pass the red light where Hwy 108 crosses 515, look for the cell tower on the left. That will be Allred Mill Rd. Turn left. The entrance to the market will be the first road on the right.

Dixie Highway Yard Sale

The Dixie Highway Yard Sale runs along old Highway 41 from Ringold, Georgia to Marietta, Georgia along the old two lane Highway 41. The event is held the first weekend in June.  This year, 2012, that will be June 1st through June 3rd. The weekend after Memorial Day.

I have set up just south of Calhoun the last two years. The results were very good. While there are many good spots on this celebration of the old byway my favorite is the stretch between Adairsville and Calhoun.  A service road at the Airport south of Calhoun runs parallel to a section of the road and is always full of vendors. Reseca at the Highway 136 crossing has been another hot spot in years past. Many of the shops along the route in Calhoun run sidewalk sales in conjunction with the Dixie Highway Yard Sale. I would also expect to see a lot of activity at any flea market along or near the highway

Hwy 108 Red Garage Flea Market

Just up the hill from the Vault Pawn and 108 Flea Market is the Red Garage Flea Market. A tiny market that specializes in old tools. They have other stuff also, but I have found more antique tools there than I have found at many other markets. On my last visit I found antique irons, a bracket bit brace and two Universal (A brand name that disappeared in 1965 when GE bought Landers, Frarry and Clark) sausage grinders.

They also have good used modern tools. Saws, hammers drills and many others. There were also about two dozen folding chairs for sale and a box of old 45 records. If you are traveling Highway 108 between Waleska and Ballground look for this flea market, it is worth the stop.

Highway 41 North Flea Market in Calhoun

The Highway 41 North Flea Market is located on the north side of Calhoun across from Battlefield Lumber and Supply. When I stopped by in early March there were about a dozen vendors set up. Lots of good used stuff. Furniture. Lawnmowers. Tools. DVD's and games. Some glassware, dishes and collectibles.

It is an outdoor market with only a couple of dozen tables but plenty of room for a vendor to set up his own. Tables were renting for four dollars a day but I would expect the price to rise to $5. It is in a great location. Definitely a place to check out if you are looking for a spot for The Dixie Highway Yard Sale coming in early June.

They have sausage and baloney sandwiches as well as coffee if you want breakfast.

My one complaint is the entrance. They have only a small driveway for entrance and exit.

The Eton Flea Market

Most folks call it the Eton Flea Market or the Eton Market.  The proper name for the market in the North Georgia town of Eton is Pleasant Valley Orchards Flea Market. A couple of weekends ago on Saturday, November 20th I set up there.

The Eton Market is new, having only opened for business last summer.    There are a lot of different vendors offering everything from antique radios to new items.  You will find estate dealers, folks with yard sale items, tools as well as lots of novelty stuff.

Local churches sometimes raise money for different projects by selling baked goods.  Other food vendors offer pork rinds, boiled peanuts and pop corn.  There is a pretty good Mexican restaurant out in front of the market also.

I plan on returning to the Eton Flea Market this Saturday on the first weekend in December.  Along with the hats, pins (Great stocking stuffers!) and the usual stuff I carry I will have gift sets for women and more tools.  Hope to see you there.

The market is actively managed and clean. Spots for vendors are $12 for a three table spot under a shed. Outside tables are $5 a day and there are inside spots available for monthly fees.There is an area specifically for livestock. For more information give the market manager, Greg Vander, a call.
