Hwy 108 Red Garage Flea Market

Hwy 108 Red Garage Flea Market near Canton, Georgia.

Update: Last I checked this one was no longer open. Just another piece of Flea Market history. Below is my review from 2011.

Just up the hill from the Vault Pawn and 108 Flea Market is the Red Garage Flea Market. A tiny market that specializes in old tools. They have other stuff also, but I have found more antique tools there than I have found at many other markets. On my last visit I found antique irons, a bracket bit brace and two Universal (A brand name that disappeared in 1965 when GE bought Landers, Frarry and Clark) sausage grinders.

They also have good used modern tools. Saws, hammers drills and many others. There were also about two dozen folding chairs for sale and a box of old 45 records. If you are traveling Highway 108 between Waleska and Ballground look for this flea market, it is worth the stop.

    1. I'm not sure. I haven't been by that way in a while. I do remember they were only open on Fridays and Saturdays. I will try to swing by there soon and check them out.

There is an interesting place on Hwy 53 heading West out of Jasper near the Hill City area. You might want to check them out if you are over that way.

  2. I may swing by the red garage this weekend. I'm trying to find blacksmithing tools and that place sounds perfect. If I do, I'll let you know if they are open.

I'm not too familiar with that area, can you give me any more specifics on the place on hwy 53.

    Thanks!

    1. I would appreciate it. To get to the other spot from the red barn take a right on 108 towards hwy 515 (I 575). It is about ten miles to 515. Head North on 515 to Jasper. Hwy 53 crosses 515 in Jasper. There is an Ingles Grocery on the right. If you turn right there are a couple of good antique shops in Jasper. Nana's Outback in particular specializes in primitive antiques.

You might take a look at the Farrier Depot in Canton for Blacksmith supplies. http://www.thefarrierdepot.com/

Check out antique shops near you also. You could probably save some time by calling first.

I've done some blacksmithing myself. I put together a small forge using an old brake drum and have made my own charcoal. I would like to do more but have been very busy lately.

      Good luck with your search.

    2. Whoops. never finished my directions to the other place. In Jasper where Hwy 53 crosses 515 take a left (West) towards Fairmount. It would be about two miles on the left. Look for it a little past the Church on the left. I f you get to the BP station and Hill City Elementary you have gone too far.

Are you collecting or are you trying to learn blacksmithing as a hobby?

  3. I've taken it up as a hobby. I grew up in my dads blacksmith shop.

    Thanks again for the info!

    1. Thanks for the update. Blacksmithing as a hobby seems to be growing. I had a couple of inquires when I set up to sale at the Hwy 411 Yard Sale this year.

Tell about your favorite flea market or latest find. I review comments before they are published. This may take a little while.
